Editing Practical response

RESPONSE

Brief: (Original narrative)

  • Spy A is waiting for a “drop” from Spy B.
  • Spy A is agitated and nervous whilst waiting.
  • Spy B enters and sits down confidently next to Spy A.
  • Spy B sneakily passes the “drop” to Spy A
  • Spy A stands up and walks away.
  • Spy B waits a moment before walking away in the other direction.

πŸŒΊ After brainstorming about what else could be done to the narrative, I decided to alter the story just enough to somewhat elevate the relevancy for people my age (teenagers).
"Addiction" has now become a more widely used term, especially in schools and academic programs. It is normally associated with lectures about how harmful toxic drugs can be as a method of keeping children away from them. By incorporating that into this assignment, I came up with a new storyline (while keeping the same narrative).

Title: The meet

MORE IN-DEPTH EXPLANATION.πŸ’

🌷[Character A: Quang; Character B: Anonymous]🌡

Beginning with an establishing shot.
  • This would be an establishing shot of Quang's house (to show where the actions will take place).
  • use a wide-angle view  for this footage with a motion of zooming into the window (where Quang's bedroom will be).

1st .

          [First scene on storyboard]
  • Quang is seen lying on his bed, filmed as a long shot , in order to see his full body and the background.
  • Regarding the setting , Quang's room will appear to be messy, with clothes lying all around a dirty floor. This encodes that Quang is unorganized, lazy, and has no self-discipline.
  • Acting: Quang should be expressing nausea, anxiety, and a slight hint of frustration due to the agitation of the Cocaine withdrawal. His body trembling in sweat, while simultaneously suffering from severe chills. Later on, he pulled up to grab his phone from a drawer.
  • Makeup (visual adaptation): red, swollen eyes (from tears); chapped lips (caused by dehydration); Messy hair, unwashed clothes (shows that he hasn't showered in a couple of days). Can be decoded that he has been fighting off the cravings for a while.
  • Lighting: Low-key and diffused; creates a sense of dizziness and unconsciousness.

2nd.
  • POV- Insert shot of Quang making a phone call to his dealer for more drugs
  • Hands will be frantically dialing the numbers
  • Quang will be cuddling in his blanket as a result of the coldness.

3rd.
  • Medium shot that slowly zooms in and stops at a  medium close-up shot  of Quang's face once the dealer picks up on the other end.
  • In this scene, Quang asks for more drugs; negotiating with the dealer.
  • Acting: Quang speaks at a fast pace, almost rushed, which encodes that he is really desperate to get some more Cocaine.

4th.
  • Shot-reverse : Straight cut back and forth:  to the other side where the dealer (Character B) is taking the call; back to Quang's bedroom.
  • Extreme close-up on dealer's mouth (we should hear Quang's heavy breathing muffled through the phone)
  • Acting: The dealer is seen smirking as if entertained by Quang's pathetic situation. Connotes a naughty feeling in their personality, an unserious manner.
  • Makeup: the dealer has lipstick on, and encodes that this is a woman/teenage girl. (used as a surprise factor; people don't normally associate femininity with such acts, and so this detail goes against this stereotype)
5th.
  • Straight cut to a  long shot with Quang standing around the corner.
  • Setting: A small, isolated alley; the noise of traffic can be heard in the background at low volume. This encodes that where Quang is standing (which can be determined as the meeting spot with his anonymous dealer) is a hidden area compared to the rest of the town. This connotes mystery and secrecy.
  • Lighting: low; almost dark. Encodes mysteries and secrets.
  • Straight cut to Medium-long shot
  • Use of Jump-cuts , indicates passage of time. Illustrate that Quang had to stand there and wait for a long time (provokes more urgency in him; acting becomes more intense)
6th.
  • L-cut (audio-based transition); Sound of approaching approaches
  • Transitions to a close-up of the dealer's foot walking along the road towards Quang; stops at the corner of the alley.
7th.
  • A Two shot ; *Very short dialogue between two characters
  • Medium close-up shot that focuses on Quang, only a blurry silhouette of character B visible to the audience. This connotes that the dealer doesn't want others to know about their identity.
8th.
  • The exchange
  • Shot with a close-up of their hands
  • Dealer is seen with longer nails (further sustenance their girly preference)
9th.
  • Long shot of Quang sprinting towards the camera (running back home)
  • Connotes Quang's boiling desire to use the substance once he gets back home.

PEER ASSESSMENT

πŸ“ִ໋🌷͙֒
After discussion, my teammates and I settled on combining our storylines. We merged our ideas of drug exchange and changed the scenery to a school bathroom. Both the addict and the dealer are students currently enrolled in the school (to highlight the fact that they are teenagers).
