DISTRIBUTION TIMELINE
I chose to research the distribution system of the musical film "La La Land". The movie proved strong marketing strategy as of its great success which is why I was inspired by its method of bringing the narrative to the public. Not only was the timing set up for awards attraction, it also created lots of anticipation towards the audience.
Some other marketing strategies include:
- Music: The song "City of Stars" (The Fools Who Dream) was the core of the movie, encoding both the context and overall feeling of the film. Along with the other soundtracks, the song was released and shared on social media, attracting music lovers and evoke curiosity of those who may listen.
- Live Concerts: A live orchestra or a jazz band playing the soundtracks of the movie. This enhances the experience of viewers, making it more immersive and engaging. (May or may not involve a live projection of the film).
- The film premiered in the Venice Film Festival, followed by screenings at Telluride and Toronto. This helps build anticipation from both the public and critics, which resulted in the film securing high praises and ultimately winning multiple awards including: Academy Award - Best actress (Emma Stone), Best Directing (Damien Chazelle), and more; Golden Globe - Best Motion Picures Musical or Comedy and Best Actress (Emma Stone); along with many nominees on different categories. By utilizing these successes in prestigous award ceremonies, the film became one of the must watch of its season.
